After reading your latest blog and seeing your work, both here and in person, I must say, not to compare yourself to anyone. Being an artist thrives on being an individual. Wouldn’t the world be aesthetically boring if all we had to look at were Picasso’s. As far as “great” work by “experts” if you study any piece of artwork, closely and long enough, you will find flaws. Flaws that you as an individual artist will find that no one else can see. Things that you would do differently, be it a brush stroke or camera angle. It’s all about what you see and feel that they didn’t. Also, that insecure feeling about being “not good enough” is really a necessity. It makes us as artists strive for our masterpiece, it will always be the “next one”. Without that challenge what reason is there to create. Rick
When I compare myself to others, especially now that I’ve thought about it, it’s not that others are inherently better than I am. It’s that they’re further along in their artistic journey. They may have experience or skills that I haven’t developed yet. For example, http://magicflutenudes.blogspot.com and shadowscapetruth.blogspot.com have both been using camera’s for longer than I’ve been alive. When I look at their work I’m inspired. I don’t necessarily want to copy their works, but to perform at the same level.
