…the sensor on my camera. I haven’t thought about this before but it just popped into my head today. My first camera was the Minolta Dimage A1. It was a 5 megapixel with an 8.8mm x 6.6mm sensor. Here’s an image from that camera.
My next camera was the Minolta Maxxum 7D. It was a 6 megapixel camera with a 23.5 x 15.7 mm sensor. Almost double the size. A picture from that camera.
And then we have my current camera. A Sony α900. It has a whopping 24 megapixel sensor that is 35.9 x 24.0 mm. Not quite as much an improvement between my first and second cameras but still a large increase. And a picture from this camera.
I’ve been down the same road with both film and digital. My first camera (age 6) was a 110 instamatic. The next one (age 15) was a Nikon FG20- bare bones, but still a good camera. The next one was a Nikon N70 (age 28) – great camera still have it but rarely use it. My last film camera I bought was a Hasselblad 501C (age33). I love this camera and still use it for black and white photography.
In my digital world, I started with a little Fujifilm 3.1 MP. After that one was stolen, I got a Nikon Coolpix 5700 with 5mp and an amazing lens. I still use it. I just got a Nikon D700 12.3 mp full framed sensor and love it.
I guess my point is, we are evolving as photographers. I know that the camera does not make the photographer great, but a great camera sure does help. I hope you enjoy your new Sony and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
